The Eagles have secured their punter, as they have used their exclusive rights tender on Cam Johnston.
Johnston had no choice in this matter as an Exclusive-rights free agent. ERFAs are players with two or fewer seasons of service time and whose contracts have expired. With the Eagles tendering a qualifying offer to him, Johnston has to either sign the tender with Philly or sit out the season; he has no negotiating rights with other teams.
The Aussie punter had a difficult task in front of him replacing Donnie Jones, who became one of the greatest punters in Eagles history in his five-year stay with the team. Johnston has exceeded expectations, becoming an asset for the team moving forward. He is currently the franchise leader in gross average and net average, the two most-important punting measurements.
Howie Roseman has now locked up all three of his special teamers over the past few months, as Jake Elliott and Rick Lovato are also signed to stay with the team for the foreseeable future. The Eagles special teams play is in good hands moving forward in 2020 and beyond.
