2023 Week 2 Injury Report: Eagles vs Vikings

It wasn't pretty but the Eagles left Week 1 with a 1-0 record. It cost them an arm and a leg (and some ribs) as the team is dealing with a handful of new injuries which will leave them shorthanded for Thursday's game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Here's a look at the Eagles' injury report for Week 2:

S Reed Blankenship (ribs)

Blankenship being out is a big hit to the defense. Now Terrell Edmunds or rookie Sydney Brown will get the start, but both are likely to see snaps on defense on Thursday anyway.

CB James Bradberry (concussion) With Bradberry out Josh Jobe gets the start. Mario Goodrich or Eli Ricks will likely be active on Sunday to fill in as the backup or fill in Jobe’s special teams role.

RB Kenneth Gainwell (ribs)

With Gainwell out D’Andre Swift will likely be the starting RB, and Rashaad Penny will not only be active for the first time this season on Thursday but he should see a pretty big role as well.

DT Fletcher Cox (ribs)

If Cox is inactive then a mix of Jalen Carter, Milton Williams, and Marlon Tuipulotu will all likely see an increase in snaps.

IR

LB Nakobe Dean (ankle) Dean can return starting in Week 6 if he is ready. In the meantime, the only other linebackers on the roster are Christian Elliss and Zach Cunningham. Nicholas Morrow and Rashaan Evans are on the practice squad and could be called up.

LB Shaun Bradley (achilles)

Bradley will miss the entire 2023 season. He was primarily a special teamer last season for the Birds.

CB Zech McPhearson (achilles)

McPhearson will miss the entire 2023 season. He was primarily a special teamer last season for the Birds but did have 99 snaps on defense playing both outside corner and as a slot corner.

The Vikings are also dealing with a handful of injuries to some key players.

C Garrett Bradbury (back)

Bradbury left the Vikings' game against the Buccaneers Week 1 with a back injury. He only played 7 snaps and was replaced in the lineup by Austin Schlottmann (59 career games, 11 starts)

LT Christian Darrisaw (ankle)

Darrisaw missed six snaps on Sunday against the Bucs. He was replaced in the lineup by Oli Udoh (42 career games, 17 starts)

DE Marcus Davenport (ankle)

Davenport did not play in Week 1. Aside from starter Danielle Hunter, the other two pass rushers that had high snap counts last week for the Vikings were D.J. Wonnum (48 career games, 15.0 sacks, 34 QB hits) and Pat Jones II (26 career games, 4.0 sacks, 5 QB hits)

IR

RB/KR Kene Nwangwu

Nwangwu is one of the best kick returners in the NFL. Ty Chandler returned kicks for the Vikings in Week 1.

DT James Lynch

Lynch is a rotational D-lineman who registered 20 tackles last season in 15 games (2 starts).
