The Eagles are getting thin with their offensive line depth, as Halapoulivaati Vaitai is heading to Detroit while Jason Peters' future with the team is unclear. As of now, the Eagles have just three pure tackles on the roster: Andre Dillard, Lane Johnson, and Jordan Mailata.
If no big additions or investments are made, then Mailata is slated to become the primary backup for at least one of the tackle positions. The Australian big man has ended the last two seasons on IR due to back injuries, and there is some concern if this will become a regular problem for him. According to NFL Insider Adam Caplan though, Mailata is fully healthy and will have no restrictions entering the 2020 season.
His first year Mailata solely learned left tackle, but the addition of Dillard last season meant he had to start learning right tackle. He admitted that he felt more natural at left tackle, which should be a note for the front office to keep him at left tackle in 2020 and beyond and maybe address backup right tackle in free agency or in the middle or late rounds of April's draft.
