Eagles Tried to Claim Two Defensive Linemen off Waivers

Howie Roseman is apparently looking to build more depth for his defensive line, as he tried to claim two defensive players off of waivers on Saturday. He was unsuccessful trying to grab DT T.Y. McGill (Chargers picked him before the Eagles could) and DE Mario Edwards (Giants picked him before the Eagles could).

McGill would have possibly played alongside Fletcher Cox, as Tim Jernigan will be missing at least the first six weeks of the season recovering from a back injury. For now, Haloti Ngata will be Cox's partner-in-crime.

Mario Edwards would have been a rotational defensive end, possibly allowing Brandon Graham, Chris Long, Michael Bennett, and Derek Barnett to take some plays off.

The Eagles had a solid DE in Steven Means on the roster, but they released him to get to the 53-man mark. However, after Week 1 all contracts become non-guaranteed, so a reunion with Means might come in Week 2 if the team still wants to add a defensive lineman.
