When the Eagles signed LB Corey Nelson this offseason, they were expecting him to slide right in and start some games for the team, in addition to being a great special teams player. But ever since Nelson arrived in March, he hasn't really stood out in any training camp practices or preseason games. Which is why the team has decided to release him
Last week we wrote a story about how the team might be looking to release him, because due to the draft compensation process, if the Eagles would have kept him they wouldn't have received a 6th round draft pick in next year's draft. The team apparently views Nathan Gerryand Kamu Grugier-Hill as higher on the depth chart, so they decided that he wasn't valuable enough to keep on the roster and forego receiving a free 6th round pick in the 2019 Draft. The Eagles also received $1 million in cap space by releasing Nelson today.
