Eagles Lose Special Teams Captain to Miami Dolphins

The Eagles will need to have a new starting linebacker and special teams captain in 2021, as last year's captain, Duke Riley, is reportedly on the move and joining the Miami Dolphins.

The Eagles initially acquire Riley in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons early in the 2019 season. Riley primarily played special teams that season, but in 2020 his role expanded to starting linebacker as well as a special teams captain for the Birds.

Overall, Riley played 509 special teams snaps and 597 defensive snaps for the Eagles in 25 total games, registering 55 tackles (two for loss), 0.5 sacks, one QB hit, one interception, one pass defended, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.

There are now just six linebackers on the Eagles current roster: Alex Singleton, T.J. Edwards, Shaun Bradley, Davion Taylor, Joe Bachie, and Rashad Smith.
