Eagles Bring in Cornerback Help, Release Shelton Gibson

After two years with the Eagles, Shelton Gibson might be on his way out of Philadelphia. Today the team announced they have waived/injured Gibson and brought in defensive back Sojourn Shelton.

If nobody claims Gibson, then he will revert back to the Eagles on IR, ending his 2019 season and be back to fight for a roster spot in 2020. The team could also come to an injury settlement with Gibson to allow him to be free to sign with any team.

In two years, Gibson only totaled three catches for 59 yards. He was supposed to be a big impact on special teams, but he never really did much in his limited chances as a kick returner, gaining just 43 yards on two returns.

Shelton has yet to play in an NFL game is his career. In 2017 he spent the season on the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad.
