As of the start of the 2019 NFL season, the Philadelphia Eagles have played the Washington Redskins 172 times in their history. Although they currently trail the all-time series 86–78–6, they have had plenty of players who dominated every time the got on the field versus Washington. The following is a list of 10 players who constantly played their best against against the burgundy and gold.
Troy Vincent
Vincent had 28 interceptions as an Eagle. Five of those came against the Redskins in just 15 games against them. He also added 15 passes defended and two forced fumbles during those rivalry games.
Hugh Douglas
Douglas played 10 times against Washington as an Eagle, sacking their quarterbacks 8.5 times while also adding eight tackles for loss. Over 15% of his total sacks in an Eagles uniform came when he brought down Quarterbacks wearing Washington colors.
Brian Westbrook
In 13 games, Westbrook totaled 1,342 all-purpose yards against the Redskins. He had three touchdowns on the ground and four threw the air. Being responsible for 42 points in just 13 games is pretty impressive, and those points were crucial as the Eagles won nine of those 13 games Westbrook played in.
Donovan McNabb
McNabb played 19 career games against the Redskins before eventually playing for them. The Eagles ended up winning 12 of those games. He totaled 3,949 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, 12 interceptions, and an 84.5 QB rating against Washington. The McNabb era certainly helped the Eagles get closer in the head-to-head matchups race.
Brian Dawkins
For 25 games the Redskins offense had to deal with a future Hall of Famer at safety for the Eagles. Dawkins recorded three sacks, three forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, nine tackles for loss, six interceptions, 18 passes defended, and 114 combined tackles. He also suplexed a poor Redskins receiver.
Evan Mathis
In 342 career pass-blocking snaps against the Redskins, Mathis allowed just eight pressures and gave up zero sacks. On Pro Football Focus' grading scale, he graded above 80.0 in six of his eight career games against Washington. It's an understatement to say that the Redskins defensive line had their hands full when dealing with Mathis.
DeSean Jackson
As an Eagle, Jackson has played against the Redskins 11 times. In those games, Jackson brought in 32 catches for 572 yards and five receiving touchdowns (and also a punt return touchdown). When he left the Eagles, Jackson haunted them as his team went 5-1 when facing Philadelphia. He scored three touchdowns and averaged nearly 100 yards/game against porous Eagles secondaries. Now that he is back in midnight green, he is ready to continue his tradition of lighting up his former teams, which now includes the Redskins.
Zach Ertz
Ertz broke the Eagles franchise record for receptions in a game when he caught 15 passes in a meeting against the Redskins in 2014. He also had 13 receptions in a 2015 matchup against the Redskins. In total, Ertz has played in 12 games against Washington, recording 71 receptions for 718 yards and a touchdown. He doesn't really get in the endzone against the Redskins, but he will move the chains with reckless abandon.
Carson Wentz
Wentz didn't get off to a hot start versus Washington. In his two games against the Redskins his rookie year, the team lost both games while Wentz never had a QB rating over 90. In his three games since then against Washington the Eagles have won all three games, with Wentz averaging 293 passing yards and never having a QB rating below 96.0. Over the course of those five games, Wentz has put up a total of 1,374 passing yards, nine touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 98.4 QB rating. He has made some fantastic plays against that team down south, which are highlighted below.
Fletcher Cox
Cox is averaging nearly one sack a game against the Redskins in his career, recording 12.5 sacks in 14 games. Cox only has 44.5 sacks in his career, so nearly one-third of them have come versus Washington. He also has added 12 tackles for loss, 21 QB hits, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and a touchdown.
