During yesterday's loss to Tampa Bay, Mike Wallace suffered a possible season-ending ankle injury. Alshon Jeffery may be ready to return Week 3 following offseason rotator cuff surgery. Mack Hollins is on injured reserve with a groin injury and ineligible to return until after Week 8.
Without three of their four top receivers, the Eagles need some help.
The free agent market is the most likely route for the Eagles front office. The arguable top candidate on the open market is Dez Bryant. Bryant likely wants a more substantial deal than the Eagles will offer and his strong personality could clash with the highly unified locker room.
Josh Gordon is currently with the Cleveland Browns, but they released a statement on Saturday evening indicating plans to release him this week. There is no doubt that Gordon is exceedingly talented and could be acquired by the Eagles for the right price. But is the low cost worth the risk? Gordon was suspended for violating the league's substance abuse policy, missing two seasons, and by most accounts is unreliable.
Another consideration is Jeremy Maclin, the Eagles' 2009 first-round pick. At 30 years old his production has obviously declined, but the Eagles showed an interest in bringing him back to Philadelphia last year.
The three wide receivers on the Eagles practice squad could provide some depth on the active roster, but only one has regular season experience. The Eagles need to make some decisions. Who would you like to see the Eagles bring in to help bolster their receiving corps?
