It's been a record-breaking season for Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz. The absolute highlight of Ertz's season was when he broke his idol's record for most catches in a single season. Let's take a look back at the ups and downs of Ertz 2018-2019 season with the Eagles.
Season Stats:
16 games, 116 receptions , 156 receiving targets, 1,163 receiving yards, 10 average yards per reception, 8 touchdowns, 34 long receptions, 66 receiving first downs, 1 fumble
Highlights:
In Week 10, when the Eagles took on their rivals, the Dallas Cowboys, Ertz caught a pass thrown by Carson Wentz in the third quarter to tie the game.
In Week 12 against the New York Giants, Ertz catches a pass from Wentz and trucks through three defenders to score a touchdown.
Again in Week 10 against the Cowboys, Ertz catches a first down pass to score a touchdown bringing the Eagles an extra point from tying the score in the 3rd quarter. The team gathered in the endzone for a picture and salute to service.
The Wentz/Ertz combo was on fire in Week 10. Ertz comes in clutch with a touchdown thrown by Wentz on third and goal in the 4th quarter again bringing the Eagles an extra point away from tying.
In Week 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ertz catches a touchdown from Wentz on 2nd and Goal. This brought the Eagles up by 8 with under 10 minutes left in the fourth quarter.
Going back to the Eagles first match against the New York Giants in Week 6, Ertz catches a touchdown thrown by Wentz from the 10 yard line on 1st and Goal. This touchdown was Ertz's second of the game bringing the Eagles up by 14.
Lowlights:
Despite his record-breaking season, Ertz was snubbed by All-Pro voters. He was left out of the first and second team and sadly there is no third team. Ertz caught 116 passes for 1,163 yards, more than Travis Kelce who was selected first-team All-Pro tight end and George Kittle who made second-team.
Future with the Eagles:
In 2016 Ertz signed a six-year contract, $43.64 million contract. The deal contains $20 million guaranteed. Here's a breakdown of the rest of his contract: 2019: $12.1 Million, 2020: $11.7 Million, 2021: $10.4 Million, 2022: Free Agent. In other words, Ertz will be an Eagle for a LONG time, and will continue to dominate in the passing game.
