Rodney McLeod Is Done For The Season

As the Eagles slowly start getting playmakers back from injury on the offensive side of the ball, news is breaking that the defense has suffered a blow.

Per NBCS Philly's Derrick Gunn, starting safety Rodney McLeod had season ending surgery this morning for a torn MCL. McLeod was injured making a tackle against Nyheim Hines during the Indianapolis game.

Not that there's any indication that the Eagles were in the market, but this news comes on the heels of the Carolina Panthers signing free agent safety Eric Reid to a one year deal.

The "Next man up" to fill the void is 12 year veteran Corey Graham. He will see significant playing time in Nashville this Sunday. However, the Eagles now find themselves paper-thin at the safety position.

Undrafted free agent Tre Sullivan was brought back to the practice squad after his special teams gaffe against the Falcons in the season opener, so he's an in-house option for some depth.

There's no magic bullet to overcome the loss of McLeod. He was a staple of the Eagles defense during their Super Bowl run last season. Hopefully the Eagles front seven will be able to take some pressure off the secondary this weekend and if there's a worthwhile safety out there via trade or free agency, you can expect GM Howie Roseman and company to find him.
