With news of Derek Barnett undergoing season-ending surgery, Chris Long and Michael Bennett will have to try and step up and fill the void. There is one other player who will likely see an increase in snaps the rest of the season too - rookie Defensive End Josh Sweat. Sweat has a chance to show why he was once considered a potential first-round draft pick before injuries derailed the rest of his college football career.
If Sweat plays at a high level for the rest of the 2018 season, it could make Howie Roseman's job this offseason easier.
Chris Long has all but confirmed that this will be his final season. Brandon Graham will likely demand a big-contract either from the Eagles or from another team in Free Agency. Michael Bennett is under contract next season, but has a high cap hit. The team could release Bennett and save $7 Million in cap space that can go towards Carson Wentz's upcoming mega-contract.
If Howie Roseman feels Sweat's play over the rest of the 2018 season is great, he could go into next season with Barnett and Sweat as the starting Defensive Ends, and could try to find depth at the position in the 2019 Draft.
