How Former Eagles Fared in Week 1 of the XFL

Updated: Feb 24, 2020

The first weekend after the Super Bowl is usually filled with emptiness with the realization that football won't be around until the summer. This year is different though, as the Xtreme Football League's inaugural reboot season officially got underway over the weekend. The XFL is hoping to be an outlet for NFL fans to get through the offseason and maybe even eventually compete with the NFL for ratings. For the players, it is a way to get additional reps and film to their name that NFL scouts and general managers can use to see if they want to give these players shots in Training Camp. After the XFL season concludes in April, players are free to sign with NFL teams.

All eight teams played this weekend, and seven of those teams have former Eagles on them. A total of 30 players in the league have spent at least some time on the Eagles 53-man roster or training camp roster. Here's a look at the former Eagles who appeared in this weekend's boxscores:

•QB Matt McGloin (New York): 15/29, 182 yards, one passing touchdown; three rushes, two yards, one rushing touchdown

•RB Matt Jones (St. Louis): 21 rushes, 85 yards

•CB Ajene Harris (Houston): three tackles, three passes defended

•RB Donnell Pumphrey (D.C.): four rushes, five yards; one reception, three yards, one two-point conversion

•LB Asantay Brown (Dallas): five tackles (one for loss)

• S Godwin Igwebuike (Seattle): four tackles (two for loss)

•DE Winston Graig (Dallas): four tackles

•S Jerome Couplin (Los Angeles): three tackles

•DT Elijah Qualls (D.C): two tackles, one fumble recovery

•LB Ryan Mueller (New York): two tackles

•CB Josh Hawkins (Dallas): two tackles

•WR Freddie Martino (Dallas): one reception, 11 yards

•DT Gabe Wright (Houston): one tackle, one pass defended

•RB De’Angelo Henderson (Houston): one rush, negative-six yards

We'll track these former Eagles throughout their seasons to see if any play well enough to earn another chance in the NFL, and possibly another chance in Philadelphia.
