Former Eagles Great Wes Hopkins Passes Away

It has been a sad time these past few weeks for former Eagles. The legendary Tommy McDonald passed away, the family of the late Daniel Te'o-Nesheim discovered he had grade 2 CTE at the time of death, and former Eagle Irv Cross is donating his brain for CTE research because of recently being diagnosed with mild cognitive dementia.

The team lost another player from their alumni today, as Garry Cobb reported that his former teammate Wes Hopkins passed away this morning at the age of 57.

Hopkins was drafted by the Eagles in the 2nd round of the 1983 NFL Draft, and started right away at safety. His breakout season came in 1985, when he had a career-high 6 interceptions (including one pick-six) was voted Most Valuable Player on the Eagles defense and was selected to his first and only Pro Bowl. Hopkins retired after the 1993 season and finished his career with 30 interceptions, 12 sacks and 1 defensive touchdown. He played his entire 11 year NFL career with the Eagles.
