After writing last week how it would be impossible for Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to make any magic on the field like he did last year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he somehow managed to prove us wrong. We paid the price for not taking him seriously, and now "Fitzmagic" might have ended the Eagles 2019 season.
In my previous article, I went over how the offense for the Dolphins was towards the bottom of the league in all offensive categories. On paper, it looked like Sunday was going to be an easy win for the Eagles and the defense would have no issues containing Fitzpatrick. The first play of the game couldn't have been any better for the defense, as cornerback Ronald Darby intercepted Fitzpatrick's to the Eagles offense great field position to take an early 7-0 lead.
The whole first half the Eagles defense was a relative success, as they allowed just 14 points and created tons of pressure on Fitzpatrick. The Eagles defense managed to get three sacks in the first half, and everything was going as expected as the team took a 21-14 lead into the half.
Then in the second half, momentum was beginning to shift as I sat there in disbelief seeing Fitzpatrick throwing to DeVante Parker over and over again with success. This was something that just was not handled well by defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz, as Parker finished with a career-high 159 yards and two touchdowns.
With Schwartz refusing to make adjustments to his defense, Fitzpatrick ended the game with 365- yards for passing as well as three touchdowns. If Schwartz would have stopped playing man coverage and gave his corners some safety help, maybe I wouldn't be writing this article and the Eagles wouldn't be the current laughing stock of the NFL
The fact remains that Sunday's game was a horrible and embarrassing loss, but it sums up an Eagles season that has ben nothing but disappointments. They allowed Fitzpatrick to make them look like fools again just like he did last year with Tamp Bay Buccaneers. They had a year to learn from their mistakes and they still couldn't manage to shut down the Fitzmagic.
I'll never know what kind of magic comes from Fitzpatrick's beard, but I sure will never question it again. He just needs to retire already; he's done enough emotional damage to this fan base.
