The future at the wide receiver position in Philadelphia is a little unclear. With Golden Tate's, Jordan Matthews' and Mike Wallace's contracts expiring, and Mack Hollins basically not existing as a human being this season, the Eagles might be in the market for some help at the position in 2019.
Today they officially announced the signing of WR Marken Michel, which was reported at the beginning of the new year. They also announced a signing of another receiver today - Johnny Holton.
Holton is an interesting signing and a player who probably has the best chance of making the roster from all the receivers recently signed. He has real NFL experience, playing in 32 games with the Raiders and recording three touchdowns. Back in 2016, Holton was recorded to be one of the 10 fastest players in the NFL, hitting a top speed of 22.23 miles per hour on an end around play. He is also listed as 6'3, so Holton could possibly become a redzone option for the Eagles in the preseason.
With Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor, Mack Hollins and Shelton Gibson being the four current Eagles receivers under contract, it looks like there will be at least one receiver spot up for grabs in Training Camp, possibly two. Maybe Holton will take that spot as long as there aren't any big free agent signings or high draft picks at the wide receiver position.
