The entire sports world is in mourning this afternoon as it was confirmed that Kobe Bryant was one of five people killed in a helicopter crash in Los Angeles.
Bryant were born in Philadelphia and attended Lower Merion High School in the suburbs of the city. As he grew up in the city he became a massive Philadelphia Eagles fan. He ended up meeting the team in the middle of their historic 2017 run and gave them some advice.
During that visit the team gifted him a personalized Eagles jersey with his number 8 and name on the back.
Bryant was finally able to celebrate an Eagles Super Bowl victory when the team defeated the New England Patriots back in February of 2018. His was holding his newborn daughter as he watched Tom Brady's Hail Mary fall incomplete in what became a viral video.
After the news broke of his passing, many Eagles took to social media to share their condolences and their memories of "The Black Mamba":
An icon an Eagles fan taken from us way too soon. R.I.P to Kobe Bryant 💚💚
