The never-ending carousel of wide receiver for the Eagles this season found its latest victim, as the team announced this afternoon that they have waived Jordan Matthews.
The Eagles brought him over the bye week when the team was dealing with an injury to Alshon Jeffery. In two games with Matthews in the lineup, he caught four passes for 33 yards. The team is either anticipating that Jeffery will be back for the Miami game this weekend, or they were so impressed with Greg Ward's performance yesterday (six receptions, 40 yards) that they are keeping Wards over Matthews as the potential slot guy for the rest of the season.
Now finished with his third tenure with the Eagles, Matthews sits 21st in team history in receptions (249), 21st in receiving yards (3,006), and 20th in touchdown receptions (21). If the team doesn't find much receiver help in the offseason we might hear Matthews name pop up again around Training Camp to give him a shot at staying on the 53-man roster.
