Eagles Hire Michael Clay as Special Teams Coordinator

The Eagles had to completely rebuilt their coaching staff this offseason, as HC/OC Doug Pederson, DC Jim Schwartz, and STC Dave Fipp all went their separate ways. After hiring Shane Steichen (OC) and Jonathan Gannon (DC), the team has now added Michael Clay to take over as Special Teams coordinator. The move has been made official and mentioned on the team's website.

The 29-year-old Clay has previously worked for the Eagles. He was a part of the staff in 2014 and 2015 (back when Eagles had one of the best special teams units in the league). Here's a full look at his coaching resume:

  • Defensive quality control with the Philadelphia Eagles (2014)

  • Assistant special teams with the Philadelphia Eagles (2015)

  • Assistant special teams with the San Francisco 49ers (2016)

  • Assistant strength and conditioning/assistant special teams with the San Francisco 49ers (2017)

  • Assistant special teams with the San Francisco 49ers (2018–2020)

The Eagles will now head into the 2021 season with one of the youngest coordinator staffs in the NFL.
