The NFL officially announced its 2021 schedule Wednesday evening. Here's what the first 17-game schedule in Eagles history will look like:
There are some interesting matchups for the Birds this season:
The Eagles will travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons to begin their season. New Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts is from Philadelphia and attended Abington Senior High School and Archbishop Wood High School. The Eagles lead the all-time series against the Falcons 20-15-1.
The home opener will be in Week 2, when the Eagles will host the San Francisco 49ers. It's unclear if Jimmy Garoppolo will be under center or if the Niners will go with third overall pick Trey Lance. The Eagles trail the all-time series 19-14-1.
The Eagles will host the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 4. It'll be just the second time former head coach Andy Reid returns to Philadelphia; he won in his first game back in Philly 26-16.
In Week 5 the Eagles will go down to Charlotte to face the Carolina Panthers, who have a new quarterback in Sam Darnold. The Eagles are 7-5 all-time against the Panthers, and will look to get revenge after the Panthers came from 17 points behind in 2018 and beat the Birds 21-17.
The Eagles will host the reigning Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. There's a strong possibility that this is the fourth and final time Tom Brady comes to Philadelphia. Brady and the New England Patriots beat the Eagles in the previous three games Brady started in Philadelphia (31-10, 2003 ; 38-20, 2011; 17-10, 2019).
In Week 7 the Eagles will travel to Las Vegas for the first time in their history as they will take on the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium.
In Week 8 the Eagles will face the Detroit Lions and their new quarterback Jared Goff. They are 2-1 in the three games they have faced Goff, but they haven't defeated the Lions franchise since the 2013 Snow Bowl.
In Week 9 the Eagles will face the Los Angeles Chargers at the Linc for the first time since they relocated to LA. The Eagles trail the all-time series 7-5, but have won three of the last five matchups. The Chargers will also have a new quarterback under center in Matthew Stafford.
In Week 10 the Eagles will face the Denver Broncos. It'll be the first time they face off since the infamous 51-23 drubbing of the Broncos in which the Eagles actually ran out of touchdown fireworks because of how much they scored.
In Week 11 the Eagles will host the New Orleans Saints for the first time in the Post-Brees Era. The Eagles lead the all-time series 18-15.
The Eagles will visit the New York Jets in Week 13. Although it doesn't sound like an intriguing matchup, a lot is at stake for the Birds. The franchise is 11-0 all-time against the Jets, once of only two active teams the Eagles have never lost a regular season game to (5-0 versus Houston Texans).
