A week ago the Eagles biggest question mark for the 2019 season was their running backs group. After trading for Jordan Howard, it seemed likely that the team would be content with their group, or at the very least draft another running back in the middle or late rounds of this month's draft. But now the Eagles might have their eyes on another possible trade piece for their backfield.
Today Duke Johnson requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns. Cleveland.com beat writer Mary Kay Cabot mentioned that the Eagles are one of three teams that have shown interest in acquiring the veteran running back.
The Eagles reportedly had interest in Johnson before Free Agency started, so it's not clear if the team still has interest after acquiring Jordan Howard.
Johnson is a running back that plays a similar style to Darren Sproles - he can carry the ball and also line up as a slot wide receiver or get the ball on screens. In four seasons with the Browns, Johnson raked up 1,286 rushing yards, 2,170 receiving yards, and 13 total touchdowns. Johnson only carries a $3 Million cap hit for the 2019 season, so the Eagles can definitely afford having a backfield of Jordan Howard, Duke Johnson and Corey Clement for this upcoming season.
