Brent Celek Set To Officially Retire Today

Updated: Apr 29, 2019

A fan favorite will be officially hanging up his shoulder pads and cleats today, as former tight end Brent Celek will be announcing his retirement and releasing a farewell statement on the Eagles website.

Apparently Celek did draw interest from teams, and some teams reportedly were actually willing to pay him more money than most expected. But he decided to call it a career and will go out on top of the NFL mountain as Super Bowl champion.

Celek has been known for his hard-nosed mentality and toughness that Philadelphia considers as a city trademark. He only missed one game in his career, and has recently publicly stated that he would never put on a Cowboys uniform.

Celek retires with 175 games played (4th most in team history), 398 receptions (4th most in team history), 4,998 receiving yards (8th most in team history), and 31 receiving touchdowns (11th most in team history). He will always be remembered as one of the most reliable pass-catchers in franchise history, but more importantly, he will be remembered as a member of the first Eagles team to bring home the Lombardi Trophy.
