A season filled with devastating injuries for the Philadelphia Eagles has a new victim, as Alshon Jeffery will reportedly miss the rest of the 2019 season with a foot injury.
This isn't the first time Jeffery has been injured this season, as Jeffery had missed four games earlier in the year. He finishes his 2019 season with 43 receptions for 490 receiving yards and four touchdowns.
The future doesn't look bright for the oft-injured wide receiver. He will be turning 30 in February, and at times this season it looked like he was running with cinderblocks in his cleats. His contract next year doesn't look too hot either, as his cap hit will jump from $6 Million to $15.6 Million. The team is pretty much unable to cut Jeffery even if they wanted to, because he would cost $26 Million in dead money against the cap if the team were to move on from him. The only way to possibly get out of the contract is to try to trade him for a late-round draft pick to a team in desperate need for receiver help. But with this new injury, we don't know how long it will take to recover or if the rehab will go into the 2020 season, so trading him might now be off the table.
This injury will give rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside the chance to finally play at his natural receiver position. After a great catch late in last night's game, he should have some confidence going into the last few games of the season. Greg Ward will also get some extra time on the field too. Hopefully Nelson Agholor is healthy enough to return from his knee injury, or else the team will have to rely on another receiver off the streets (like Jordan Matthews), or pick a receiver off their practice squad (like Marken Michel).
