The reigning Super Bowl champions have not been doing well. Every fan has been trying to find a scapegoat for this miserable season, but at some point it is okay to just chalk this up to a lost season due to injuries. The Eagles have officially reached that point after Sunday's loss to the New Orleans Saints, as six Eagles suffered new injuries during the pitiful loss.
Not included in that list are Jalen Mills (foot) and Darren Sproles (hamstring), who both will be on the injury report throughout the week to determine their availability against the New York Giants on Sunday.
The offense has dealt with numerous injuries even to start the season as Carson Wentz and Alshon Jeffery missed the first few games recovering from surgeries. The offensive line hasn't been healthy either, with Jason Peters coming in and out of games with numerous injuries and Lane Johnson missing games with a sprained ankle and sprained MCL. The running backs have been sidelined by injuries too, as Corey Clement and Darren Sproles missed numerous games, and Jay Ajayi being placed on Injured Reserve.
One particular group of Eagles players that have been hit harder by the injury bug than anyone else is the secondary. Seven of the eight players who were healthy for the Week 1 game against the Atlanta Falcons have dealt with injuries this season.
The Eagles also have a lengthy list of players who are on Injured Reserve, and all but one of them will be forced to stay on that list for the rest of 2018.
At some point you just have to throw your hands up and laugh at how absurd that all the Eagles players keep getting hurt. Last year the team was an anomaly with how they were able to overcome injuries. This season they fell back to what normal teams do when players start getting hurt - play mediocrely. This just better not end up being the "new norm" Doug Pederson mentioned at the parade in February.
